There's Still Time To Vote For The 2011 Whalie Awards

Choose your favorite local musicians in the People's Choice poll

Time is running out for local music aficionados to cast a vote for their favorite music from the past year.

The second annual Whalie Awards are taking place on Saturday at the . Nominees arrive in a red carpet ceremony at 6 p.m., and the distribution of the awards starts at 7 p.m. There is a suggested donation of $10, and beer and wine will be available for purchase. Ten musicians and bands are scheduled to perform.

Votes are invited to participate in the People’s Choice section of the ceremony. These categories will choose the best alternative, rock, Americana, DJ, hardcore or metal, urban or hip hop, punk or ska, indie/experimental/dance, soloist or songwriter, music series, and music video. Voting can be done here, and polls close at midnight Friday.

Other awards as chosen by critics will highlight the best performances, songs, and albums of the year. Last year, Low Beam won the Best Album award with “Charge of the Light Brigade while Matt Gouette’s “Opinion” earned him the Song of the Year Award. Gouette, who also won Best Solo Artist of the Year in 2010, returns this year with six nominations while Low Beam has one for Best Alternative Performance.
