The Amazing Race, The Academy Awards, and Shameless

TV Picks for February 27

The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business, 8 p.m., CBS

CBS laughs in the face of the Oscars over on ABC, as it knows that AR fans don’t care about stuttering kings, psycho ballerinas or lesbians changing their affiliation. Not when we have Racers dressed in kangaroo suits making their way across the Australia!! Oh yeah!

The 83rd Annual Academy Awards, 8:30 p.m., ABC

After last year’s brilliance of Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin hosting, it is with great trepidation that I await this year’s hosts, James Franco and Anne Hathaway. Of course they will look great, but what will they do? I imagine Colin Firth and Natalie Portman will continue their trophy-snagging march tonight, and if you are tired of sitting on your couch saying hilarious snarky things to yourself, I encourage you to jump onto my Facebook page, where I will be live-blogging the event. Join the fun!

Shameless, 10 p.m., Showtime

You honestly never know what is coming next on this show, and they are always good surprises. And while I have been largely creeped out by the Joan Cusack character of Sheila, last week she knocked me out with her acting. Charged with watching baby Liam while Fiona enjoyed a night out, Sheila had to overcome her agoraphobia in order to save the baby, who had wandered outside. That was amazing.
