Robert Irvine Event To Include Drive For New London Food Center

Non-perishable food items may be dropped off at the Garde Arts Center on Dec. 29

A celebrity chef's visit to New London later this month will go in tandem with an effort to stock one of the city's food banks.

The Gemma E. Moran United Way Labor Food Center will collect non-perishable food items for its new mobile food truck at the Garde Arts Center on Dec. 29. Items may be dropped off at the Garde between 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on that day.

The collection will be held in advance of an appearance by Robert Irvine, who stars in the Food Network's Restaurant: Impossible. This show includes a live cooking demonstration featuring audience participation as well as audio and video content. It is sponsored by CCR Wealth Management, The Day, Dominion, and Mohegan Sun.

“We are proud to celebrate the transition into a new year with an event that brings together so many community leaders,” said Steve Sigel, executive director of the Garde Arts Center. “The Mohegan Sun, Dominion, the United Way and others are helping bring a rare theatrical experience that highlights food on our stage while supporting Gemma Moran United Way Food Center’s mission to put food on the table of the many among us who need their support.”

The show will start at 8 p.m. on Dec. 29. Tickets range from $25 to $38.
