Planning Underway For Hygienic Art XXXIV

People invited to meeting tonight to organize major arts event in downtown New London

Hygienic Art is inviting anyone interested in helping organize an annual downtown arts festival to the first planning event tonight.

The meeting for Hygienic Art XXXIV will begin at the gallery at 7 p.m. This will include discussion of the events to be featured in the festival, and concepts for the design of T-shirts, posters, and invitations will also be considered.

The main event of the annual January festival is a "Salon des Independents" display in the Hygienic Art gallery that features artwork submitted by anyone interested in putting up a piece. No pieces are censored or rated by a jury, and there is no fee for submitting artwork.

Complementing the exhibit are a number of events including a cabaret show, fashion show, plays created and performed in a 24-hour period, short film festival, young artists' exhibition, poetry, music, and photography. Ideas for new features are welcome at the planning meeting.

Submissions for the film festival, The Screening Room, are currently open. Films must be shorter than 10 minutes in length and submitted to the gallery by Jan. 15, with DVDs and a computer file backup preferred.
