New London Tube: Heap Plays The Steve Kaika Benefit

New York City band takes the stage at Hygienic Art for a benefit performance

Last weekend, several bands came together at venues around downtown for a to help the family of Steve Kaika. The bassist and vocalist for The Reducers .

The rock band has been around since 1978, when Kaika joined Hugh Birdsall, Peter Detmold, and Tom Trombley. Since then, the band has released eight albums and toured in Japan, according to The Reducers' website.

Kaika, who grew up in Waterford, spent 34 years with the band, also worked as a carpenter and had his own contracting business. He was 57 when he died after a fight with cancer.

In this clip, the band Heap covers The Reducers' single "Life in the Neighborhood" at the benefit concert held at Hygienic Art Park. The video specifically notes Tim Heap and Frank Saitta, the guitar/vocalist and drummer for the New York City band Heap. This group has released four albums since 1996.
