Get Out: Five Great Things To Do This Weekend

Now that the grass is getting greener and those flowers are blooming, there’s no excuse to stay home this weekend. Really, everything will be all right. Just turn off those TVs, drop those remotes and throw those empty coffee mugs in the sink—you’re going out. Grab the kids if you’re heading to the Robin Hood Festival for some Renaissance fun. Or, better yet, leave them home to keep an eye on your beloved DVD player while you catch some great acts at the casinos. And don’t worry, we won’t judge you if you set your DVR before you head out.  

1. THE ROBIN HOOD SPRINGTIME FESTIVAL

WHERE/WHEN: Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Guilford Fairgrounds in Guilford.

WHY GO: It’s the only local jousting joint! And it’s “Family Fun Weekend,” so grab some grub at the Feast of the Merry and shake it at the Belly Dance Championship!

PRICING: General admission is $15, youth admission is $8 and children under 5 are free.

WHERE/WHEN: Friday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Eugene O’Neill Theater in Waterford.

WHY GO: With wine and a silent auction, what’s not to love?

PRICING: Tickets are $35 each and benefit Sound Community Services and the Custom House Maritime Museum.

WHERE/WHEN: Friday at 8 p.m. at Mohegan Sun Arena.

WHY GO: It’s not September, but we hope you’ll go anyway.

PRICING: Tickets are $40.

4. 

WHERE/WHEN: Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. at the MGM Grand Theater.

WHY GO: He’s funny. You’ll like him.

PRICING: Tickets are $82.50 to $150.

5. GREENLEAF MEMORIAL 5K ROAD RACE AT OCEAN BEACH

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday at 11 a.m. at Ocean Beach Park in New London. Registration will be in the Nautilus Room in the main building from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

WHY GO: Not only will you be getting in shape for summer, but you’ll be supporting the Greenleaf Memorial Scholarship Fund!

PRICING: Registration cost on race day is $25.
