Because It's No Fun To Stay Home All Weekend

For all those who have lost their 2011 calendars, this Sunday is Mother’s Day! Yep, that came up quickly. We tip our hat to those who have written their cards, planned a Sunday brunch and picked up a little something for Mom. But for the rest of you still tangled up in Easter grass, get moving! Lucky for you stragglers, we have some great ideas here—so good she won’t even know you waited until the last minute!

1. 

WHERE/WHEN: Sale will be held at the vacant Arrow Paper & Party Store in the Groton Shopping Plaza on Long Hill Road in Groton. Sale will be held on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

WHY GO: Kick off Mother’s Day weekend with a little bargain shopping? Why not?

PRICING: On Thursday items will be marked up an additional 25 percent. On Friday items will be sold at prices marked and on Saturday most items will be discounted by 50 percent.

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. Meet at the Whalehead Road entrance in Ledyard.

WHY GO: Join the search for wild raptors! Or just enjoy the great outdoors, great company and great exercise.

PRICING: Free.

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Mystic River Park on Cottrell Street in Mystic.

WHY GO: Mom will love spending time with the family—and she’ll love the plant sale, live music and dancing and other family activities.

PRICING: Many events are free of charge.

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday at 8 p.m. at Mohegan Sun Arena.

WHY GO: You’ll be wanted dead or alive if you don’t take Momma to see Bon Jovi.

PRICING: Tickets are $135 and $210.

5. MOTHER’S DAY SPECIALS AT FOXWOODS’ RESTAURANTS

WHERE/WHEN: Sunday at Cedars Steak House, Al Dente, Veranda Café, The Grill at Two Trees, SHRINE, David Burke Prime and High Rollers Luxury Lanes & Lounge.

WHY GO: Don’t make Mom cook on Mother’s Day!
