Filmmakers Using Whaling City As Set This Weekend

Third year for Whaling City Film Project, which asks participants to make a short movie in four days

A few clues and a New London location will set filmmakers on a journey to create the best short film this weekend as the Whaling City Film Project returns for its third year.

Anyone interested in participating in the competition should attend an introductory meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the . There, teams will receive the criteria for their films including a prop, line of dialogue, random genre, and character name. All must appear in the final product, along with a landmark or identifying characteristic of New London.

After receiving their criteria, filmmakers will have four days to complete all aspects of the movie, including the script, acting, and editing. The final product must be a minimum of four minutes and a maximum of seven minutes long. Films must be turned in at the Garde Arts Center by 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 27.

A panel of judges will review the films to choose the winner of a $500 prize. The movies will also be screened for the public on Sept. 30 at the Garde Arts Center, where the audience will choose the winner of the People’s Choice Award.
