Winter Concert / New London Community Orchestra

The New London Community Orchestra will hold its winter concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22 at the Harbour Towers Ballroom, 461 Bank St. The music includes Vivaldi’s Concerto in G Major, Bach’s Fugue in G minor, Satie’s Gymnopedie #1, and Mozart’s Divertimento No. 1. The $5 suggested donation helps support our music education efforts in New London.

The New London Community Orchestra is a nonprofit organization comprised of volunteer players. Performances offer classical music to the public, raise awareness of musical traditions, and help foster the region’s community of musicians. Funds garnered through concerts and events contribute to the organization and the start up of an after-school strings programs for children.

Players come from throughout Southeastern Connecticut and provide a variety of experience and musical insight to the orchestra. While it is now made up of string instruments, the orchestra hopes to add other sections and expand to a full orchestra. Anyone interested in joining the orchestra can contact us through the website or by email: Newlondonorchestra@gmail.com.

The mission of the New London Community Orchestra includes a strong commitment to youth music education. As part of our mission, we are establishing a program of free music lessons in New London.  Teachers and mentors will help elementary school children learn to play violins, violas, and cellos in an after-school program. The students play in ensembles so the community also benefits from the joyous experience of young people learning to play an instrument.

Created early in 2011, the New London Community Orchestra continues to offer unique and rich offerings to the New London and surrounding communities. They are available for private and public events in the community.
