Spirit Gallery Tattoo – New London’s only tattoo studio and art gallery – presents “Uncanny” a series of photographs by University of Connecticut graduates of the Cage Photo Collective. The collection will open with an artists’ reception from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 9.
The “Uncanny” series explores the fascinating aspect of silence in photography with a range of stylistic approaches presenting a collection of images which are striking, beautiful and stubbornly refuse to talk. The exhibit refuses to provide a context to the images to aid the viewer’s attempt to fit what they see with a sense of reality, making the collection equally beautiful and unnerving.
The Cage Collective was founded by a group of University of Connecticut photography students who recognized the value of an artistic community which could carry on beyond their time at the university. Founded on the idea that success requires hard work, team-work and motivation, the Collective provides a space for critique, ongoing learning and sharing of opportunities.
