Expressiones Cultural Center is very proud and pleased to present  for the first time in New London the new work by Argentinian Artist Monica Miller.  Mrs. Miller is an Artist in residence at Expressiones Cultural Center and will share with our entire community: " Pianissimo" Art Exhibition. “Pianissimo” is a body of work that includes a series of animation and photography that talks directly about the crossover between music and dance that is used to construct her artwork. Pianissimo would also be given as a series of free Art workshop for NL kids during her residence period at Expressiones (March 2012).

Probably as a consequence of the western art control over the rest of the cultures, the piano has become an archetipical image of the music. Not in vain, Nan June Paik, Josepf Beuys, Georege Maciunas and other artists of the Fluxux movement used this solemn and elegant instrument to show their destructive poetry to attack the high culture. When I saw a piano taken to pieces in a tuning shop, I felt a strange sadness.

Then, more thoughtful and playful, I tried a patient game of reconstruction. In a diptych, I will displayed a disturbing visual equation between an object whose presence is immediately recognized by us and a grid of minute and mysterious “sculptures”.

Afterwards, I imagined that those independent pieces had come to life and could dance to their own music. I went from the nearly scientific analysis to the choreographic creation.” Monica Miller
