Silver Cornet Band to Perform at OpSail

The Silver Cornet Band, a professional concert band with members from throughout the southeastern Connecticut area, has been invited to perform a concert at OP SAIL, the big four day festival in New London celebrating the region's maritime history.

The band will perform on the "Lawn Stage" at Fort Trumbull at 2:30 PM on Sunday, July 8th. The band, under the direction of Lewis J. Buckley, retired commander and musical director of the US Coast Guard Band, will perform a variety of crowd pleasing patriotic, nautical, march and Broadway show music, including a number of compositions by Buckley.

Featured soloist will be Musician First Class Bonnie Denton, a Gales Ferry resident, performing a Euphonium solo "American Portrait", composed by Buckley. Another highlight will be a performance of Buckley's "The Tall Ship Eagle," with the USCG barque Eagle in the background.
