Eastwood’s newest film , written by Dustin Lance Black, challenges what we think we know about FBI director J. Edgar Hoover, who has been idealized as an incorruptible crime fighter, and damned as a malicious destroyer of lives. Leonardo DeCaprio gives a superb performance that captures Hoover’s dual nature, as he persecutes gay men inside the FBI, while at the same time falling in love with longtime companion Clyde Tolson.
