The 66th season of the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra concerts begins on Saturday, October 20, 2012, at 8 PM at the Garde Arts Center in New London, conducted by ECSO Music Director, Toshiyuki Shimada. The six concert series stretches from October to April. Each performance is preceded by a pre-concert chat at 7 PM for those ticket holders who wish to attend. Free post-concert receptions for members of the audience feature free champagne and goodies along with a chance to meet the conductor, the soloist, the musicians, and mingle with friends old and new. Enjoy a full evening out.
The first concert on October 20th is sponsored by the Friends of the Symphony with the soloist supported by Lawrence and Memorial Hospital. The program begins with Kenneth Fuchs, Atlantic Riband, a salute to the grandeur and glamour of the age of the passenger ship when it was the sole mode of transportation between America and Europe. (Mr. Fuchs will be present and will share the pre-concert chat with the Music Director, Toshi Shimada.) The guest soloist, Steinway Artist, Peter Frankl, will play the Brahms Piano Concerto No. 2 for the 100th time in his extraordinary 50 year long career. Mr. Frankl has appeared all over the world with all the great conductors past and present. The final piece on the program will be Berlioz’s Romeo and Juliet: Orchestral Selections.
