BOOK CELEBRATION AND SIGNING

Beth Lapin, a New London native, has published her first novel, To Say Goodbye, with Wings ePress. Lapin, who worked at Ocean Beach and still owns her family home, now resides in Middletown. Beth has been writing since elementary school when her pieces were published in the well-loved Harbor Beacon. But it wasn’t until funding ended for her “real” job in the summer of 2009 that she began writing in earnest.

“My New London upbringing and proximity to the Connecticut shoreline inspired the fictional town of Old Haddam in this book,” said Beth. “And I credit my New London High English teachers--Miss Barnum, Mr. Harris, and Mr. Lesniowski--for a solid writing foundation.” Prior to her fiction career, Beth wrote technical and nonfiction articles and has filled journals with decades worth of personal reflections. She focuses on relationships, with an undercurrent of sleuthing in historical contexts. As a facilitator of creative writing groups for social service agencies since the 1990s, her work is informed by advanced degrees in social work and biological science. Beth has lived in Puerto Rico, Massachusetts, Maryland, and all the states that begin with “C.” She enjoys kayaking, hiking, contra-dancing, and family genealogy.

To Say Goodbye explores whether a middle-aged couple can join forces to overcome their individual pasts, risk loving again, and build a new life together. Beth will celebrate its publication on Saturday, March 24 (snow date Sunday, March 25), 1:00pm at Muddy Waters Café, 42 Bank Street, New London. Paperback copies, autographed if desired, will be available for purchase at $15. Additional information is on her website, www.BethLapin.comTo Say Goodbye is also available online in both e-book and paperback through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Wings ePress.
