Expressiones Cultural Center is very proud to announce the exhibition “Time In.”  “Time In” is a thematic art exhibition that explores visual interpretations of the experience and broader implications of incarceration. It is body of artworks created upon the lives of imprisoned women.

This unique collaborative project involving Expressiones Cultural Center, Mitchell College, and the Judy Dworin Performance Project (JDPP)  is made possible in part by a grant from the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism.

As curator and founder of a non profit organization that has as one of its main goals to bring Art free to the less advantaged in our community, and also as a former volunteer at the correctional institution in Niantic, the topic touch me immediately. It was to me, something not to think twice about when I was invited to be part of  “Time In”.

I consider this exhibition to be a good media to connect the public with a situation that most of the time we do not feel confortable even trying to recreate in our imagination. “Time in” brings us the opportunity to think about that part of the population that we may be forget.

This may help the public to understand that many inmates do not belong in prison in the first place, and that returning prisoners need to be given a second chance.
