Coast Guard Band Playing Free Labor Day Concert

Cannons, Eagle tours among attractions

The Coast Guard Band is hoping for good weather as they plan for an open-air concert to celebrate Labor Day.

The show will take place at 3 p.m. on Sunday at . The Coast Guard barque Eagle, which is celebrating its 75th year, will be open for tours before and after the concert. Both the music and the tours are free, and no tickets are required. The concert will be held in Leamy Hall on the campus in the event of inclement weather.

The set includes a number of pieces celebrating maritime history, including John Philip Sousa’s “Glory of the Yankee Navy” and “Jack Tar March,” Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “Sea Songs,” and Robert Russell Bennett’s “Finale: Introducing the S.S. Eagle March." The Coast Guard Dixieland Jazz Band will also perform a set. Finally, the annual performance of Tchaikovsky's "1812" overture will feature a cannon accompaniment by The Artillery Company of Newport, R.I.
