Benefits For Steve Kaika Continuing This Weekend

Oasis Pub, El N Gee, 33 Golden join Hygienic Art Park in raising money for the family of the bassist for The Reducers

A benefit for the family of a musician with The Reducers will continue on Friday, and several local bars are joining in the effort.

, a bassist and vocalist with the band, died of cancer on Tuesday at the age of 57. His death came shortly before a benefit planned for 7 p.m. on Friday at to raise money toward his medical expenses. The event will continue as planned.

"We lost Steve Kaika last night but take comfort in the great memories and music he created," a message on the website of The Reducers reads. "Friday night's show in New London will continue as a benefit, memorial and celebration of Steve’s life."

Performers at the show will include Ken Atkins and the Honky Tonk Kind, Dogbite, The Original Sinners, and The Rivergods. A suggested $10 donation may be paid at the event, or advance tickets may be purchased at , , and as well as the Mystic locations of Imagine Fantasy Gifts and Mystic Disc.

, the , and the will also hold benefits on the same evening for people ages 21 and up. 33 Golden Street will feature the Rachel Carson Band, Anne Castellano and the Smoke, and Catfish Phillips. Dirt Road Radio, Harper and Owens, and The Meadows Brothers will play at El N Gee. The Oasis Pub lineup has Burnouts From Outer Space, Incognito Sofa Love, and Daphne Lee Martin. The cover for each show is $5.
