A Gifted Man, Blue Bloods, and Majors and Minors

TV Picks for September 23

A Gifted Man, 8 p.m., CBS

I am unsure of this. The plot summary sounds dumb: “A brilliant surgeon's life changes forever when he is visited by the ghost of his deceased ex-wife.” The lead actor looks like William Hurt from his Broadcast News days (which is not a minus). But I have read some decent reviews. Might be perfect Friday-night fodder. Glass of wine and this after a long Patchy day. Let me know what you think if you watch it.

Blue Bloods, 10 p.m., CBS

Speaking of perfect Friday night fare, they have moved this to 10 p.m., which means I am going to turn it into perfect Saturday night fare (when I am not, you know, out painting the town red). And kudos to the show for wrapping up the Who Shot Joe? mystery at the end of last season (The Killing, I am talking to you).

Majors and Minors, 8 p.m., The Hub

First, what is The Hub? A new kid channel, I guess. In this reality show, “a dozen super-talented kids ages 10-16 get mentored by some of the biggest artists in music!  No one is ever "voted off," but one of them will claim a recording deal and the chance to be featured in a nationwide concert tour. Their musician mentors will include Leona Lewis, Brandy, Jordin Sparks, Sean Kingston, One Republic's Ryan Tedder - plus others to be announced.” Tonight we watch them whittled from 40,000 to 12.
