Winter Storm Warning—10-14 Inches Of Snow Possible For New London County
The National Weather Service predicts heavy snow will start falling in our area at noon Tuesday and continue on through the evening. Temperatures will be cold enough to cause frostbite.
The weather this winter has gone from one extreme to the next. On Monday, we had a high temperature of 55 degrees but, with overnight temperatures dropping to 17 degrees, brace yourself: Tuesday, forecasters are predicting a major winter storm that could bury us knee-deep in snow.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for New London County from noon Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday. Although we might see a few snowflakes Tuesday morning, the storm is expected to bring heavy snow starting in the afternoon and on through the evening's commute. Forecasters are predicting we could see an accumulation of 10 to 14 inches.
Temperatures aren't likely to top 20 degrees, with wind chills making it feel like 5 below zero on Tuesday night. Winds will be blowing north at 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. The combination of wind and snow could reduce visibility to a quarter of a mile at times. Snow is expected to taper off by Wednesday morning.
If the forecast is accurate, kids may well have an extra day off school this week.
