Sailfest, Robinson Crusoe, Broadway By Request

It’s that time of year again. Both the New London Patch calendar and New London Main Street events page are full of things to do at Sailfest, running from Friday through Sunday. Get the full roundup in this article.

In the art world, it’s your last chance to catch a couple of shows. Matthew Cassar’s exhibit at Spirit Gallery has its last day on Saturday, while Daniela Campins’ work at Expressiones comes down after Sunday. Ongoing shows include “Celebrating 15 Years of the Frank L. McGuire Maritime Library” at the Custom House Maritime Museum, Diana Atwood Johnson’s “Roger Tory Peterson & Me: A Bird Photographer’s Exhibition” at the Gallery at Firehouse Square, the artist collaboration “Passion Discipline Intuition Intellect” at Hygienic Art, and Aleksandr Trachishin’s paintings at Studio 33.

Hygienic Art Park and the Public Library of New London again hold not quite competing Wednesday evening movies. The library shows The Perks of Being a Wallflower at 5 p.m., while Hygienic Art Park’s “Summer Flickers” brings in To Kill a Mockingbird at 8 p.m.

The Garde Art Center concludes its first summer program with the Missoula Children’s Theater with a performance of Robinson Crusoe at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday; tickets are $10. And though it’s not in New London, Broadway by Request will benefit the New London-based Alliance for Living. The audience chooses the tunes at the improvised concert, starting at 8 p.m. on Friday at the Mohegan Sun Cabaret; tickets are $25 in advance or $35 at the door.

Regular weekly musical performances will continue as usual at a couple of New London locations. The “Common Ground” open mic at the Bulkeley House Saloon welcomes people to show their talent every Wednesday at 8 p.m. And Bean and Leaf brings in Richard Zack’s fingerstyle guitar at 8 p.m. on Fridays, Sunny Morning La La’s ukulele family music at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays, and the Jazz Trio at 8 p.m. on Mondays.
