Safe Futures Holding "The Power Of Purple" Event To Raise Awareness Of Domestic Violence

New London organization will put on event on April 4 at Three Rivers Community College

A local organization whose work focuses on addressing the issue of domestic violence will hold an event in April to raise awareness of the issue.

Safe Futures will put on "The Power of Purple: An End to Domestic Violence" on April 4 at Three Rivers Community College, located at 574 New London Norwich Turnpike in Norwich. Registration for the event begins at 6:30 p.m. and the program starts at 7 p.m.

The evening will include a panel discussion and speakers on domestic violence, resource tables, and a short film. Gina Berreca, a University of Connecticut professor, author, humorist, and Hartford Courant columnist, will be the keynote speaker. Dr. Grace Jones, president of Three Rivers Community College, will host the event.

The program is being put on through the Rose Conrad Memorial Fund, which was founded by attorney Sheila Horvitz in 2005 in memory of a Norwich woman who was murdered by her husband. The fund supports "educational conferences, programs for children affected by domestic violence and fundraising events." The Hadassah American Affairs of Eastern Connecticut is also supporting the program.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Safe Futures at 860-884-8945.

The mayor and council president will lie and cheat to protect the mayor's unqualified and dishonestRead More people. The council and the council leadership is supposed to act as a check and balance in this new form of government. Mr. Smith is one of those dishonest people. It is sad that this person can be so dishonest and that the so called leaders in the community back the dishonest person rather than standing up for the taxpayers and people that really do live here and pay taxes. As a finance director Mr. Smith knows the importance of the proper tax town for vehicles, so he cannot claim ignorance. Is he is breaking the law because the taxes in Windham are lower or because he truly lives in Windham?
