Pit Bull Reader Finds New Home After Surge Of Adopter Interest

A dog who was to be euthanized today if not adopted is safe in a new home after hundreds of people helped get the word out about his plight.

New London Animal Control announced on its Facebook page on Saturday that found outside the Public Library of New London, has been adopted. Another dog who was to be euthanized today, a two-year-old shepherd boxer mix named Lincoln, was adopted on Thursday. Both dogs were found on Feb. 14 and released for adoption on Feb. 25.

New London Animal Control said it would not be able to foster Reader if he was not adopted due to liability issues. The news spurred an effort to raise awareness of his urgent need for a new home, with 29 people sharing a post on Animal Control's Facebook page by resident Dangiselle Crespo giving information about reader.

A New London Patch article on Reader was shared 290 times on Facebook. A photo of Reader on the New London Patch Facebook page with a caption describing his situation was shared 192 times and seen by over 18,000 people.

In the post announcing Reader's adoption, New London Animal Control said more than 30 people called to inquire about him. The post said animal control officers were not able to get in touch with everyone who called, but were trying to return calls to let those people know he had been adopted.

"Thank you again to everyone that joined together to save Reader," the post concluded.
