New London Tube: Mitchell College Promotional Video

Fair warning to start: if you watch this video, the accompanying song is going to get stuck in your head.

The approximately six-minute feature gives information on Mitchell College, and a prominent part of it is a band singing a tune about starting your academic career "down at the ocean's edge." Well, technically it's down at the river's edge since Mitchell Beach is on the Thames, but Ocean Beach Park isn't too far of a journey for Mitchell students.

The video includes clips showcasing the classrooms, athletic competitions, and other aspects of the New London campus. Interspersed among these shots are testimonies from Dr. Mary Ellen Jukoski, Mitchell's president; Dr. Jane Friedrichs, vice president of academic affairs and dean; Dr. Peter Troiano, director of the Academic Success Center; Dr. Jeff Turner, coordinator of Human Development; Dr. Catherine Wright, psychology professor; and sophomore student Melissa Turechek.

So what the heck is that building in the video's thumbnail, showing a scene that doesn't make the final cut? Apparently someone got the New London college mixed up with Mitchell Community College. The sign and stately building appearing in the shot are indeed at that Statesville, N.C. school, which was established in 1852.

Mitchell College was established in 1938 and survived the devastating hurricane that hit soon after as well as interruptions arising from World War II. The college is celebrating its 75th anniversary in the 2013-2014 academic year, which begins on Aug. 26.
