New London Tube: Hurricane Irene At Green's Harbor Beach

As hurricane season starts, video gives a reminder of the storms' effect on the city

I unfortunately wasn't able to find much to feature from recent New London uploads to YouTube, but with hurricane season right around the corner this video seemed appropriate.

The season, which begins on June 1, provides the conditions most ripe for spawning the destructive storms. It lasts until Nov. 30. In the 2012 hurricane season, 10 hurricanes developed including Hurricane Sandy

New London has been spared major damage in recent storm seasons, but both Sandy and Tropical Storm Irene of 2011 did some damage to New London's beaches. This video, shot during the latter storm, shows how Green's Harbor Beach can easily be inundated. In both storms, sand and debris were deposited on Pequot Ave. and had to be removed.

As for the title saying a UFO attacked during the storm, that's not very accurate. Unless I just missed it.
