New London Tube: Guitar Center Drum Off

Among the more recent New London-based uploads to YouTube were a handful of videos showcasing the drumming talents in an annual contest held at the New London Mall. The store finals of the Drum Off took place on Oct. 4. According to 1 Blue Drum, a website "to help educate, teach and inspire young and upcoming drummers," judges from the Connecticut Drummers Association chose Jacob Johnson as the top drummer in the store finals, which followed preliminary competition in September. Johnson will compete in the district finals in Brooklyn on Oct. 25., and that competition will be followed by regional finals on Nov. 15 and grand finals in January.

In addition to Johnson's solo, 1 Blue Drum uploaded three other performances. Though the video of Johnson goes through a bit of a glitch, with the image freezing and then returning in mute silence for the last part of it, the audio track is fine and you can hear the entire performance.
