New London Tube: A Day On The Water

Scenes from a fishing outing in this week's YouTube pick

Before you click play on this week's choice for the local video on YouTube, you should be aware that there's a bit of fish slicing and bikinis in the mix. Maybe some salty language as well, but the dialogue is mostly drowned out by the boat's engine. And the fish gutting cuts away before the guts get involved, and the bikinis are at a distance. So unless you're an old style Puritan or are especially squeamish, you shouldn't have any problem.

This is perhaps one of the more laid-back adventures of user surfsupusa, whose channel includes such zaniness as whitewater rafting, the interior of the Statue of Liberty, tailgating with Jimmy Buffett, and an iinside view of a B-17 bomber in flight. In this particular video, he's just taking an outing aboard the charter vessel Season II in the Thames River and Long Island Sound to go fishing for bluefish and striped bass.

The video takes in a bit of the landscape as the voyage gets started, with quick shots of the New London Harbor Light, Ledge Light, and Race Rock Light. The cameraman also checks out a few of the more unique vessels out on the water, including the Black Hawk II (offering the unique service of "party boat fishing" out of Niantic, according to its website), the and, of course, the boat with the women sunbathing on the bow.

Overall, it's just a glimpse of a good boys' day out complete with beer, napping, and a decent haul of fish. It's also clearly a view of one of the summer's many gorgeous days, although it was not uploaded until Nov. 26. It's a little bittersweet to check out such activities as we enter winter, but rest assured that those days will come around again. Until then, we'll try to warm you up with what we can find of recent seasons or be on the lookout for some things to do as we prepare for snow.
