Knickerbocker Sailing Association Visits New London

Rainbow flags festooned the New London waterfront this weekend as the Knickerbocker Sailing Association arrived in town.

The organization is described on its website as a gay, lesbian, and transsexual sailing club based in New York City. Founded in 1994, the club also welcomes straight members and says it is a "friendly, nonjudgmental group of people that have joined the club to share new life experiences, on the water together."

Alan "Chip" Green, owner of Green Ink Marketing, said the club was invited to visit New London by Steve Schnidermeyer of Shaws Landing. The Knickerbocker Sailing Association excursion included visits to Frank's Place, Dev's on Bank, Fort Trumbull State Park, and the USS Nautilus.

Chris Tarzia - of the Jersey City, N.J. based vessel Eudora - said there were about a dozen vessels in the flotilla docking at City Pier and New London's mooring field. He said the club would depart on Sunday to visit Block Island.
