Great Escape: Thames River Wine & Spirits

Something To Do, Just For You

Looking for a great escape? How about a trip to a centuries-old cellar on Bank Street in New London? (Did she say cellar?)

Not just any cellar – the wine cellar – where modern and ancient mix in this dug-out foundation, reminiscent of European caves. This special place features granite remnants of walls from the whaling days of the Whaling City and a stunning collection of wines, many of which are very affordable.

Escape every Friday night at 6 p.m., meet up with friends or meet new ones and enjoy a with David, the shop’s wine expert, who will impart myriad details about the wine you’re sampling and discuss any of your other wine queries.

Enter the wine store at 84 Bank St. with its pretty hardwood floors and a grand view of the Thames River, peruse the inventory, which also includes lots of spirits and beer, and head down the stairs to the cellar where you’ll find David and his selected wine for that evening.

What a great way to celebrate the end the week and the beginning of the weekend!
