Grand Menorah To Be Lit On Sunday

Hanukkah tradition continues at New London's Parade Plaza

An annual Hanukkah tradition will continue this weekend as the downtown Grand Menorah is lit.

The lighting of the Grand Menorah will take place at 5 p.m. on Sunday at Parade Plaza. It will be followed by a Hanukkah party at the Garde Arts Center. Another menorah lighting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Chelsea Parade in Norwich.

Regular services will continue at New London's synagogues during the holiday, which runs from sunset on Saturday to sunset on Dec. 16. At Congregation Ahavath Chesed, daily services take place 10 minutes before sunset as well as at 9:45 a.m. on Saturdays, 8 a.m. on Sundays, and 6:45 a.m. on weekdays.

At Congregation Beth El, regular services take place at 4 p.m. on Saturdays, 9 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Sundays. Services also take place at 7 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. on weekdays, with the exception of Fridays when only the morning service is held.
