eBay Tuesday: Stash's Drink Token

Stash's Cafe token is one of four offered by North Dakota seller

Look at it this way: at the asking price, it's still saving you a buck or two on a drink even with shipping added in. Plus, an excuse for a road trip to the Midwest!

This week's New London-related eBay pick comes from carylj44 of North Dakota, who is offering four drink tokens. Three of them come from Minnesota and Michigan, and the odd one out is good right here at .

The seller has a few other drink token collections up for sale as well. He tells me that he collects tokens from locales in the Dakotas and knows a manufacturer in Wisconsin. "He sends me one of each, and sometimes forgets that I only want the two Dakotas. Therefore, I try to recoup my costs by selling the out-of-staters on eBay," he says.

The Stash's token is bright orange, good for one drink, and bears the slogan, "Let those who ride decide." This is a protest against motorcycle helmet laws, and in Connecticut it is indeed still up to the riders. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, Connecticut's law requires only motorcylists under the age of 17 to wear a helmet.

At the current price, the token will probably save you some money on the pricier beers and you can put that dollar or two toward cashing in your other three tokens. Two are for a can of beer and cocktail at Carlon's Top of the Rock in Brownsville, Minn. This is located right next to the Mississippi River in the far southeastern portion of state. It boasts "some of the best fishing anywhere,"  includes brewery caves among its attractions, and has all of 466 people living there.

The third token gets you a bar mixer at the Blue Bird Tavern in Alpena, Mich. You might have a harder time cashing this one in, as it seems the venue has since become Chief's Bar and Grill. The city had 10,483 people at last count, is situated on the Thunder Bay inlet of Lake Huron, and boasts a cannon from the battleship Maine on the front lawn of its City Hall.

The drink tokens are currently going for $2.99 plus 99 cents for shipping. The auction will end just before 5 p.m. on Thursday.
