Eagle Cadets Renovate St. Maarten School At First Stop

Third class cadets sailing on the Coast Guard barque Eagle were assigned to renovation duty recently at the first stop of the ship's 2013 sail.

Cadets worked with the St. Maarten Chapter of the United States Navy League to paint, clean, and repair a school building property on the Caribbean island on May 25. The Eagle departed on May 11 for its latest training mission and will be in the Caribbean until June 8.

“We appreciate the opportunity to help children in need at St. Maarten.” said Capt. Wes Pulver, commanding officer of the Eagle. “Community service projects enrich the deployment experience where the crew and cadets learn to foster a meaningful relationship with the community.”

Jack Stevens, president of the Navy League's Caribbean and Latin American Region, thanked the cadets for their work.

“The Navy League’s partnership with the Coast Guard and the other sea services helps to strengthen relationships between nations and within the immediate community they serve in,” said Stevens.
