Daily Five: Superintendent's Contract, License Plates, Friends Of Fort Trumbull

Five things to know for April 25

1. A little cooler but still a beautiful day in the forecast, with sunshine and a high of 59 degrees. Sunrise is 5:54 a.m., sunset is 7:40 p.m.

2. The Board of Education holds their regular meeting tonight. Among the agenda items are an executive session to discuss whether to renew Superintendent Nicholas Fischer’s contract, setting the New London High School graduation date, and approving the district’s core belief and commitment statements as well as standards of professional practice. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the Science and Technology Magnet High School.

3. Interested in local history? Professor Matthew Warshaurer of Central Connecticut State University kicks off the monthly meetings of the Friends of Fort Trumbull tonight with a lecture on the War of 1812 and Connecticut’s role in it. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the Fort Trumbull State Park conference center.

4. Got something to announce to New London Patch readers? Wouldn’t you know it, there’s a section just for that. Head over to the Boards and click the Announcements tab on the side to get started.

5. A common automobile feature debuted on this day in 1901, in New York State at least. Our western neighbors became the first state in the country to begin requiring vehicles to have license plates on that date.
