Daily Five: School Budget Hearing, Girl Scouts, SCORE

Five things to know for March 12

1. A dreary, rainy day today, with the high temperature reaching 50 degrees before falling to 38 overnight. Sunrise is 7:05 a.m., sunset is 6:52 p.m.

2. The Finance and Audit Committee has taken a look at both the central services and school sides of a $40.4 million budget proposal for the New London Public Schools’ 2013-2014 year. Now they want to hear from you. A public hearing on the budget starts at 6 p.m. tonight at the Science and Technology Magnet High School, with a committee meeting to follow immediately. The full budget is posted on the district’s website.

3. At the same time, the Public Library of New London hosts a SCORE workshop on the management of business finances. There’s still time to register at this event listing.

4. Have a good photo or video from around town? Put it up in the Pics & Clips gallery.

5. The Girl Scouts of America turn 101 today. The organization celebrates Girl Scout Birthday today, commemorating the day in 1912 when Juliette Gordon Low registered the first troop of 18 in Savannah, Ga.
