1. Well at least the river will look pretty. Dense fog this morning, then drizzle developing into a steady rain. The high temperature hits 67 degrees. Sunrise is 6:49 a.m., sunset is 6:24 p.m.

2. The special Planning and Zoning Commission meeting scheduled for tonight has been canceled, so take the evening off.

3. The casting call for an upcoming movie starring Cuba Gooding Jr. will run from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at the Garde Arts Center. People are encouraged to apply in person, but may also submit information by e-mail. See the article for more information.

5. The ornate train Orient Express made its first journey on this day in 1883, traveling from Paris to Istanbul. One car of the train would later be used as the venue for Germany to surrender to the Allies after World War I and again for the French to surrender to Germany during World War II.
