Daily Five: King Victor, Bingo, Holistic Testing

Five things to know for December 28

1.Sun, glorious, sun today, with a high of 39! Partly cloudy with a low of around 32 overnight into Saturday. Then a chance of snow this weekend (ski areas rejoice!).

2. The Senior Center has regular bingo games, including one at 10 a.m. this morning. If you’re 55 or older, 50 cents gets you into the action.

3. The employees at the Senior Center have gotten quite well at using the events calendar, and so has the New London Healing Arts Center. They’ve let us know about regular free holistic autonomic response testing clinics, including one at 9 a.m. today.

4. New Year’s Eve is usually a good time for the New London music scene. See what’s coming up then and elsewhere in the next week with The Sounds of New London, a music roundup posting every Friday at 5 p.m.

5. King Victor Emmanuel III of Italy, whose reign began in 1900, died on this day in 1947. Victor Emmanuel retained his title during Fascist control of the country, even ordering Mussolini’s arrest in 1943. The failure of the king to retain control of the country ultimately resulted in a plebiscite in 1946, which dissolved the monarchy in favor of a republic.
