1. Uglier weather starts today, with precipitation in the forecast through Wednesday. Rain and snow showers today with a high temperature of 43 degrees and low of 40. Sunrise is 7:08 a.m., sunset is 4:20 p.m.

2. The New London Patch and other sites in this region are transitioning to a more user-friendly model, but this has been put on hold for now. Look for updates, as we expect it'll be ready in about a month.

3. There are two opportunities today to check out holiday concerts from the Coast Guard Band. Visit Leamy Hall at 2 p.m. or 7 p.m. for the free show.

4. Check to see which animals are up for adoption at the Connecticut Humane Society in the Pets of the Week, posting at 5 p.m.

5. Jane Austen, an English novelist perhaps best known as the author of Pride and Prejudice, was born on this day in 1775. Austen died in 1817 at the age of 41.
