Daily Five: Jack Handey, Sports Roundup, Committee Meetings

Five things to know for February 25

1. Sunny skies and a high temperature of 41 degrees today, with the temperature dropping to a low of 31 degrees overnight. Sunrise is 6:28 a.m., sunset is 5:35 p.m.

2. The Economic Development Committee meets at 5 p.m. tonight to discuss a marketing proposal for New London as well as a business reinvestment initiative. The meeting takes place at City Hall.

3. This meeting is followed by the Public Safety Committee, which will try to solve the deadlock in the Police-Community Relations Committee on whether complaints against police officers should take place in executive session or in public. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m.

4. From basketball to squash, check out the New London Sports Roundup every Monday at 5 p.m. to see how the local high schools and colleges are doing.

5. Jack Handey, the author best known for his humorous “Deep Thoughts” series, turns 64 today.

The council and the council leadership is supposed to act as a check and balance in this new form of government. Mr. Smith is one of those dishonest people. It is sad that this person can be so dishonest and that the so called leaders in the community back the dishonest person rather than standing up for the taxpayers and people that really do live here and pay taxes. As a finance director Mr. Smith knows the importance of the proper tax town for vehicles, so he cannot claim ignorance. Is he is breaking the law because the taxes in Windham are lower or because he truly lives in Windham?
