3. It’s the last day for the Whalers and Lancers art show at Hygienic Art. Make sure you stop in if you haven’t seen the artwork by students of New London High School and Waterford High School.

4. Itching to create a new dish? The regular recipe column runs at 2 p.m. on Sundays.

5. King Charles I of Britain was brought to trial for “high treason” on this day in 1649 following the Second Civil War in the country. Charles was convicted on Jan. 27 and executed three days later.
