4. Fay Abrahamsson is taking some time off, so her recipe column is as well. This usually posts each Sunday at 2 p.m.

5. Charles Sumner, a Massachusetts senator known for his advocacy of the abolition of slavery and other reforms during the Civil War, was born on this day in 1811. Sumner might also be best known for being on the receiving end of a serious attack on the Senate floor by Rep. Preston Brooks in 1856. Sumner died in 1874 at the age of 63.
