Daily Five: Budgets, Board Of Ed, Varitek

Five things to know for April 11

1. The forecast calls for showers in both the morning and late evening, with cloudy conditions in between. Sunrise is 6:15 a.m., sunset is 7:25 p.m. The high temperature reaches 50 degrees.

2. It’s another long slog for the Finance Committee as they continue to hear department reports on the 2014 fiscal year budget proposal. Tonight’s meeting starts at 5 p.m. at City Hall and hears about budgets such as the Office of Development and Planning, City Council, mayor’s office, enterprise funds, and more. Get the full list at this event posting.

3. The Board of Education also holds a special meeting tonight at the Science and Technology Magnet High School. They start with a 6 p.m. meeting with parents, then at 7 p.m. go into topics such as an international language presentation and the Winthrop School operations plan.

4. I don’t have the ability to embed YouTube videos under the site redesign, but will be continuing New London Tube. This takes a look at scenes from around town that have been uploaded to the video sharing site, and posts at 5 p.m. every Thursday.

5. Jason Varitek, catcher for the Boston Red Sox, turns 41 today.
