Citizens Bank Does The Write Thing At Hygienic Art In New London

Middle and High School students in New London find new ways to express themselves with a little help from their friends.

A press release from Citizens Bank Foundation

With help from the Citizens Bank Foundation’s Champions in Action® program, Hygienic Art was able to expand its popular Do The Write Thing after-school program this year.

The program pairs New London’s at-risk middle and high school students with professional writers, tutors and artists, providing creative opportunities in a safe environment. This project has inspired students to better themselves and to reach higher academic achievement, which directly impacts their quality of life and the community.

For the past 35 years, Hygienic Art has served, supported and worked with more than 10,000 artists in southeastern Connecticut to encourage cultural artistic expression and the support of emerging artists. Stimulating economic development and tourism, Hygienic Art has received local, state and national awards for historic preservation, community development and urban beautification.

As a 2013 Champion in Action® in the category of Arts and Culture, Hygienic Art received a $35,000 unrestricted grant, media coverage, and extensive promotional and volunteer support.
