Safe Futures is collecting cans and offering Zumba this month in a pair of fundraisers to benefit the organization.
The first annual "UCan Drive" will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church. Residents may drop off cans and bottles that can be redeemed for a five cent deposit.
There will also be a Zumbathon on at 2 p.m. on Nov. 17 at the University of Connecticut - Avery Point in Groton. The Zumba course is $15 per person, or $12 with pre-registration. A $3 discount is available with the donation of food, clothing, household items, or unopened toiletry items such as toothpaste and shampoo. To pre-register for this event, contact Susan Hoffenbacher at susanhoffenbacher@att.net or Jodie Sylvester at jodie.sylvester@yahoo.com.
All proceeds from the events will benefit Safe Futures, which provides services to assist those affected by domestic or sexual abuse. The organization was known as the Women's Center of Southeastern Connecticut before changing its name earlier this year.
