The Power of Together Makes First Donation to Homeless in New London

The Power of Together a charitable giving group based in Niantic, made its inaugural donation to The Homeless Hospitality Center in New London.  The newly formed group was developed to give busy people with limited funds an opportunity to make a world of difference for a charity/ non-profit serving Southeastern Connecticut.

The rules are simple; each member is asked to commit to a one-hour meeting and a one hundred dollar donation, four times per year.  Club members bring the name of a charity and a $100 check to each meeting.   The charity /non-profit must serve Southeastern Connecticut, no national charities are considered, to ensure that 100% of the money stays local.

At the meeting, three charities are chosen randomly from a hat.  The member who brought the charity is asked to give a five-minute presentation.  Then, there is a vote.  Each club member writes out their $100. check to the winning charity.  In return, the charity is asked to come to the next meeting to talk for 5 minutes about how the money benefitted the organization and is respectfully requested not to solicit individual members who donated through the group.

The Power of Together was organized by local resident Deb Fountain who was inspired by a book entitled, Be the Miracle by Regina Brett.                  The group currently has 37 members with a goal of 100 members by the next meeting on April 16, 2014.  For more information about the group, or to join please contact Deb at debfountain@Bhhsne.com
