Down By The Riverside Festival Being Held in New London

The 3rd Annual Down By The Riverside Festival, sponsored by the Riverside Park Conservancy with support from New London Landmarks and the Hodges Square Governance Board, will take place on Saturday, September 7th from 11:00am to 4:00pm at Riverside Park in New London. The event is free and open to all ages.

Down By The Riverside features a Nature Walk led by Glenn Dreyer from Connecticut College Arboretum beginning at 11:30am. Dreyer will highlight the many indigenous plants and floral contained within Riverside Park and review the importance of conversancy. Then, at 2:00pm, the public is invited to take a walking tour of Riverside Park with Sandra Chalk from New London Landmarks. Chalk will discuss the development plans and design projects planned for Riverside Park.

Other elements of Down By The Riverside include musical entertainment by Golden Ratio, Hugh Birdsall, Bruce McDermott, Sue Mead, Lauren Agnelli and Friends, Allie & Whit, Arlene Wow!, and Mike Bailey, and children's activities will be hosted by Riverfront Children's Center, TVCCA, and Drop-In Learning Center. New London Kiwanis will provide free bicycle helmets.

The public will also enjoy Crafts by Kate Wick Weavings, Skyspyders Wheel-Thrown Pottery, Steve Downs Woodworking, Fiona’s Fabulous Knitwear, Ocean State of Mind Jewelry, Blue Moon Woolworks, Cottage Crafts Gourd Birdhouses, Thistle Beads Jewelry, Treefort Naturals Bath & Body Products, Turtle Creek Farm Wool Accessories, Inhale Love Jewelry, Hidden Miracles Nature-Inspired Crafts, Purring Pottery, Chikambuso Crocheted Bags, and BigFeatz Custom Skateboards.

In addition, Plein Air artists will be painting the landscape throughout the park, and an artist reception and display of their work from Down By The Riverside will take place at Union Station on October 19th.
