L+M Hospital

Ok, so we all know about the tensions regarding the strike at L+M, so I decided to talk with people on the picket line last night.  They are a determined group of people walking in the cold across the front of the hospital.  They had spirit, concern, and do not like how they are being treated.

Not once did the subject of money come up in conversation.  It was more about the treatment and feeling that there is no commitment from the employer about the ability of their jobs to be there in maybe a year or a month or whatever.

So, we all know the economy is horrible and there are not guarantees these days, but is this why this country finds itself in the predicament its in?  Sure, we can just blame Unions, or always throw the ball to management.

There are two sides to every coin or we would have a dictatorship right?  Isn't that communism of some sort?  For, without even exchange of labor management, couldn't there be abuse.

Sure, many of us would never see it - UNTIL IT HAPPENS TO US!  Too many corporations are taking advantage of the poor economy, using workers as scapegoats to increase profits by always saying, there is just no money to hire more people and so forth.  Now, sometimes they are right, but we all know the millions of dollars that are exchanged to purchase other facilities, etc.

It is like the banking industry I worked in - always trying to beat out the competition to make more profits.  Of course the ones on top make out really big, but those on the bottom are expected to squeeze out more more more work - sales sales sales...hopefully the bonuses are there.  I can truly understand this fight of the healthcare workers.

Although many are paid quite well, it really isn't about that from what I am seeing, hearing and finding details about.  It is about job security, respect, and playing or working in a landscape that will hopefully be there in a year or two or ten.

So, after not receiving paychecks for some time as you raise your picket signs higher up, remember that those administrators are still depositing their hefty checks while possibly making your life just a bit more miserable then it was before.  But, that's what they are getting paid for right?  Well, not all of them are miserable..........
