Two More Chances To Visit New London's Lighthouses

New London Maritime Society is offering boat tours around New London's "three sisters" lighthouses and a tour inside Pequot New London Harbor lighthouse.

If you've always been curious to see the reputedly haunted Ledge Light up close, now's your chance. The New London Maritime Society-Custom House Maritime Museum is offering two more boat tours of New London area lighthouses on October 5 and 12.

Sit back and enjoy a relaxing cruise by New London's harbor lighthouses—collectively referred to as the "Three Sisters"—Pequot New London Harbor lighthouse is the oldest, the youngest is Avery Point, and most people's favorite is the iconic Ledge Light.

Tours depart on Saturdays at 11 a.m, noon, and 1 p.m. Each trip is about 55 minutes long. Each boat holds six passengers, so reservations are required and must be paid in advance. Additional trips may be added if there's enough demand.

Tickets are $35 for adults, $25 children ages 6 to 14. Children under 6 are not permitted on this particular trip. All proceeds, beyond boat costs, benefit Lighthouse Fund.

There's also an opportunity to extend the tour, or skip the boat entirely, and visit Pequot Light, which is accessible by car. Visitors can climb New London Harbor Light's 119 steps up to the lantern on a half-hour tour that is offered Saturdays at 12:15 p.m. The Pequot Light tour is free with same-day lighthouse boat tours or $25 for the walking tour only. Again, reservations are required in advance.

To make a reservation, please call, 860-447-2501. The organization requests that people give 24-hour advance notice if they need to cancel their reservations for either tour.
