Fire Prevention, An Apple A Day, And Board of Ed Candidates On Cable TV

Five things to help you plan your day in New London on Tuesday, October 8, 2013.

1. What's The Weather? Today will be partly cloudy with a high of 68 degrees and an overnight low of 46 degrees, according to weather.com. There's a 10 percent chance of rain during the day but it should be dry tonight.

2. Look at Those Apples! Students at Winthrop Elementary Magnet School in New London have declared October 8 Apple Day—and they'll be eating apple treats made by FoodCorps to celebrate.

3. Election season is heating up. If you're interested in finding out more about Mirna Martinez (G) and Jason Catala (R), candidates for New London Board of Education, tune in to City Focus with Marty Olsen tonight. The show airs 8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. on MetroCast Public Access TV Channel 25. This is a live call-in show, so if you've got questions, dial (860) 440-3154 or (800) 253-2285.

4. This is National Fire Prevention week, and given the number of fires we've had in New London recently, it might be worth taking a look at some of the fire safety and fire prevention tips offered here

5. Breast Cancer Awareness: Eileen Kaplan will be the guest speaker at the PINK Mermaid Mastectomy Boutique, 1313 Gold Star Hwy, Groton, on October 10, where she will be signing her new book Laughter is the Breast Medicine from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
