Howe and Feigin netted 11 points each in the opening half and the visitors carried a 24-23 advantage into the break.

But the Camels relied on their bench to help them gut out this tightly contested conference tit as the Camel reserves out-scored the Hamilton subs 14-to-8 in the second stanza.

After two ties and three lead chances, the Camels took control with a 7-to-2 run. Gabelman knocked down a jumper with 6:35 remaining to spark the Camels on their rally and Smith capped the rally with a hoop at the 2:35 mark.

Howe was able to cut the Camel lead to 52-48 with 33 seconds left, converting a field goal for th visitors.

However, the Camels were able to put the game away at the charity stripe, converting 5-of-6 their last six attempts on the line to seal the 57-50 victory.

Men's Basketball: Hamilton 63, Conn College 61

Matt Dean (Franklin, Mass.) made a game-saving block in the low post with just two seconds left to lift the Hamilton College men's basketball team to a 63-61 victory at Luce Field House Friday night.

The Continentals improve their record to 13-8 with a 2-5 mark in the NESCAC, while the Camels fall to 6-15 with a 0-8 record in league play.

Pat Sullivan (Madison, N.J.) poured in a game-high 20 points with four rebounds for the visitors. Ephraim McDowell (Boston, Mass.) scored 12 points with four three-point field goals while junior Eric Benvenuti (Concord, Mass.) finished with nine points and six boards.

Connecticut College sophomore Mason Lopez (Hoboken, N.J.) finished with a team-best 16 points in a 7-for-11 shooting performance. Rob Harrigan (Milford, Conn.) had a big night on the perimeter, shooting 4-for-5 from long distance and a perfect 3-for-3 at the charity stripe en route to his 15 points.

Matt Vadas (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) registered a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards for the Camels.

"We played well but our offense dried up in the second half and that put a lot of pressure on our defense," Connecticut College head men's basketball coach Tom Satran said. "Down the stretch, we made a few mistakes on rotations and box outs and when you don't shoot we'll those errors are magnified."

This was a wild second stanza that featured three ties and nine lead changes. Down the stretch, Harrigan sparked the Camels on an 8-to-2 run. With 2:18 to go, the Continentals fouled Harrigan from beyond the arc and the junior sharp-shooter netted his three freebies to put the hosts on top 60-56.

But McDowell banked in a three with 1:52 remaining to make it a 60-59 game. On their next possession, Benvenuti was able to tap out an offensive rebound all the way out to the three point line and Greg Newton (Barrington, R.I.) buried it from the top of the key to put the visitors on top 62-60.

The Camels got one point back at the foul line and had four shots to win the game in the closing moments. But Dean was able to alter the last attempt to win the game with his rejection and Benvenuti recovered the loose ball to seal the victory.

They are undefeated in their last five games (4-0-1). The Camels lost for the first time in three games, dropping to 5-11-3 overall and 3-8-2 in the league.
