Tufts University knocked Connecticut College back in the NESCAC men's lacrosse tournament on Saturday, while the Camels also competed in track and field and rowing championships. The following information was provided by William Tomasian, sports information director at Connecticut College:

Men's Lacrosse: Tufts 13, Conn College 2

The Tufts men's lacrosse team advanced to its fourth straight NESCAC final with a 13-2 victory over Connecticut College in the conference semi-finals on Saturday at Bello Field. The Jumbos were led by three goals each from senior co-captains Sean Kirwan (Boonton Township, N.J.) and Kevin McCormick (Laytonsville, Md.).

Tufts, which improved to 15-2, will vie for its third consecutive NESCAC title on Sunday at noon against Bowdoin. The Polar Bears defeated Trinity 10-8 in Saturday's other semi-final at Bello. The Jumbos, ranked fifth nationally, have now won nine straight overall and 31 in a row at home.

Connecticut College, which received two goals from junior John Lyons (Barrington, R.I.), is now 10-6 and will hope for an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament.

Track and Field

Connecticut College sophomore Mike LeDuc of Canton, Conn. posted a time of 14:36.76 at MIT to win the 5000 meter run at the New England Division III Championship.

The Camel men placed 17th with 17 points, while the women scored three points en route to their 26th place showing.

Senior Doug Wright (Darien, Conn.) joined LeDuc in the scoring column with an eighth place finish in the 5000, logging a time of 14:52.05 for the Camels.

The Camel men placed sixth with two record setting performances in relay events this weekend.

In the 4x100 meter relay, the Camel quartet comprised of Rasheed Mitchell, Brian Gooch (Columbia, N.H.), Geoff Phaneuf (Woonsocket, R.I.) and Alex DeShields (Melrose, Mass.) broke their own record with a time of 43.45 seconds.

Matt Boudreau (Bridgewater, Mass.), Tristan Cole (St. Helen, Calif.) Ian Rathkey (Old Lyme, Conn.), and Andrew Duarte (Rocky Hill, Conn.) shattered another Camel record in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 7:51.99. The previous record of 7:55 was set at last year's New England Division III Championship.

Sophomore Samantha Pevear (Somersworth, N.H.) threw the discus 123 feet, 10 inches in a seventh place scoring for the Camels, setting a personal record at MIT.

In the 4x800 meter relay, the Camel quartet of Merry Byrne (Brookside, N.J.), Aly Bonito (Guilford, Conn.), Michelle Wesley (Millwood, N.Y.), and Kerry Dermody (Erieville, N.Y.) posted a season best time of 9:49.04 en route to their eighth place scoring.

The 15 aforementioned Camels all garnered All-New England Division III honors for scoring at this weekend's championship.

In addition to the scorers, the Camels had some other standout performances. In the 10000 meters, Colin Gallant (Ashford, Conn.) finished in 13th place with a personal record setting time of 32:23.13. In the same event, Brenner Green (Lisbon, Conn.) posted a personal record setting time of 33:11.98 to finish in 21st place.

Lianne Swanson (Franklin, Mass.) set a personal record in the 10,000 meters, posting a time of 39:20.32 in a 10th place finish for the Camels. Junior Sarah Matthews (Westwood, Mass.) set a personal record in the 400 meter dash with a time of 59.47 seconds.

In the 4x100 meter relay, Vicki Weigold (Glen, N.H.), Sara Gildersleeve (Sharon, Mass.) Gina Deitz (Portland, Ore.) and Matthews logged a time of 51.44 seconds en route to their 15th place finish.

Weigold, Amy Klopp (Monroe, Conn.) Matthews and Catherine Hallisey (Wethersfield, Conn.) posted a time of 4:22.78 en route to their ninth place finish in the 4x400 meter relay.

In the men's 4x400 meter relay, Geoff Phaneuf, Chris May (Hudson, Ohio,), Billy Barnes (New York, N.Y.) and Dan Post (Pepper Pike, Ohio) posted a time of 3:33.50.in a 17th place finish.

In the 100 meter trials, Brian Gooch was 10th with a time of 11.40 seconds and Rasheed Mitchell was 12th in 11.62 seconds.

Sara Gildersleeve was 14th in the 100 meter trials with a time of 12.81 seconds.

Rowing

The Connecticut College men's and women's rowing teams competed in the New England Rowing Championship on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. Saturday.

The Camel women medaled in two regattas for Head Coach Eva Kovach's squad.

In the women's varsity four, the Camels posted a time of 7:41 to place second, capturing the silver medal in the 10 team field.

Senior Lucy Frye (Wenham, Mass.) handled the stroke row with Maureen Sweeney (New Canaan, Conn.) guiding the Camels as the coxswain.

Junior Seana Siekman (Bethel, Maine) and senior Justine Rooney (Centerville, Mass.) were joined by Jenny Cochrane (Hingham, Mass.) in the bow seat.

The Camel women's novice four boat won a bronze medal for placing third in a 12 team field.

Grace Steward (South Hamilton, Mass.) handled the stroke row with Alexandra Friedman (Bedford, N.Y.) alongside as the coxswain.

Annie Scheer (Bernardsville, N.J.) and Cody Chase (Berkely Heights, N.J.) were joined by Story Southworth (Andover, N.H.) in the bow seat for the medal winning boat.

In the second varsity four, the Camels placed fifth in the 12 team field Saturday.
